1.‘It’s impossible’

If an employer says that any task is impossible – his boss think that he is simply either does not want or cannot do a task. If you really think that some task is impossible to be done you should provide facts to explain why you consider a task impossible. Another solution would be to provide a compromise solution to a task but never refuse a task without any explanation.

2.'Tell me what I have to do’

Modern employer does not want to manage people, instead, he wants to grow leaders that will be able to take on tasks with top management involved at minimum. If the employee always needs to be managed by a boss he is not ready to be trusted with important tasks.

3.‘I was not hired to do this task’

There is only one situation when you should talk to your boss about avoiding a task – when you are asked to do a lot of things despites your main assignments. In all the other cases if it does not mess with your schedule you should make time for the tasks that your boss asks you to do.

4.‘My job ends at 5’

If overtime in your company is not paid for and you have to complete a task urgently – it makes sense to stay a bit later. However, if you are constantly asked to stay late and work on weekends with no payment – you should probably talk to your boss about it. In case you are not willing to stay overtime when it is very much required for the good of the project – your boss will not like it.

5.‘I don’t know’

These words are perhaps the most annoying words any employer ever heard from his employees. It does not matter the situation, the question asked, you should try to avoid these words at all times. When the employer hears these words, he thinks several things – first, that you are incompetent, second - that you are not interested in the job and not able to organize the work on his own.
